Tips to avoid mistakes while
using an orbital sander
Every technician or DIYer, while using the sander, would have performed either one or all of the below-mentioned mistakes while performing an individual task or a series of them.
So, we have curated a list of tips to keep in mind so that you can avoid the repetition of common mistakes and so forth.
1)Always ensure that the process of sanding is carried out slowly and steadily. Even while adjusting the variable speed dial, please make sure that the speed is adjusted progressively and not all of a sudden. The optimum speed to be maintained is recommended to be 1 inch per second, which may sound too far-fetched or slow but is necessary so that the sander works efficiently.
2)Be careful about the amount of pressure being applied while sanding any particular surface. Too much stress can damage the surface and also result in hampering the functional efficiency of the tool. Further, too much stress can cause the apparatus to slow down and the process of losing its speed in turn.
3)Always work with a leveled sander and never tilt it while using it or otherwise when it is in resting position as well. This can seriously damage the surface, causing marks as well as affect the sanding disc or sandpaper quality too.
4) It is vital to connect the sander to a vacuum so that the dust being collected is extracted, and the workspace is dust-free. The person working with the sander should be wearing protective gear since continuous inhalation of dust can cause allergies or respiratory distress in the long run.
5)Even though sander review and sanding discs are available in different grit sizes, it is better to stick to a particular variety and not go overboard with trying all of them. The grit quality is essential for doing a sanding job effectively, so do not underestimate it, but then again, no need to try it all. Stick to the moderate range, which varies from 80-120.
6)While it is in the resting position, always make sure that the trigger switch or the power button is switched off. Click it a couple of times to be sure that it is not on and even make sure that the speed level is at the least value so that it does not start sanding without supervision, causing severe damage to the tool and the surface.
Hence, be cautious and careful while using a sander so that you can achieve the desired results in a faster and better way.
