Emily Clark was born in Brighton in 2001 and moved with her family to Gozo in 2005. Growing up, she was exposed to the small artworld of Gozo because of her mother Abi, who made mosaics out of recycled material. So, she was often helping her mother collecting things to make art with, hanging exhibitions, as well as making her own creations. Clark has an Advanced Diploma in Art and Design and is currently sitting for a BA Degree in Fine Arts at Mcast: Institute for the Creative Arts.
Clark has quite a resourceful approach to her projects; making use of collected imagery or materials. Her love for stories, books and films as well as her curiosity brings the element of narrative into a lot of her work and there is usually a lot of research that backs up her projects. Clark’s work often has a deeper meaning than what is seen on the surface. She has quite a playful and often witty approach to her work which can sometimes be perceived as unsettling. She is inspired by the macabre and by there always being another side to the story.
Clark’s work was featured in the 2019 Mcast Institute for the Creative Arts Festival at Spazju Kreattiv and in the 2019 exhibition: FUSION collaborated by the Rotary Club of Gozo at Il-Hagar: Heart of Gozo Museum. She has also illustrated a traditional Maltese (Gozitan) cookbook Ta’ Gigi as well as a children’s colouring book of bible stories for private business Salitacreations.
