Fair Housing Act for ESA
A person with a disability is protected from discrimination when looking for home by the Fair Housing Act (FHA). This law requires landlords and homeowner's associations to make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities so that they can use and enjoy a home equally. ESA Owners rights as per fair housing act:
- Landlords are not allowed to discriminate ESA on the basis of breed, weight and size.
- House Owners can't ask for pet charges to an ESA Owner
- Owners can't ask for personal details like mental health conditions and history from ESA Owner.
Air Carrier Access Act
Airlines are required by the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) to permit emotional support animals and service animals to travel in the cabin with their owners. Those who travel with emotional support animals or mental could be required to present particular documents proving their condition and the need for the animal to accompany them. People who want to take their emotional support or psychiatric animals on a flight should speak with the airline in advance to learn what kind of documentation is needed.
Keep that in mind that only a few airlines follow this law, so you have to make sure about this thing before booking your airline tickets.
Employment Laws
An ESA is not restricted by the ADA in some places. Employers are not required to provide ESA owners with accommodations as a result. On the other hand, you might think that receiving animal-assisted treatment will improve your well-being and performance at work. You can individually request that your employer make an exception in this situation based on your medical condition.
Campus Housing for ESA
According to the University of Texas, an ESA will be able to stay on campus. ESAs are not permitted in other university buildings, on the other hand.
