Watercolor Sketches, Participating Project

2016

“Memories of the Future: Slavutych/Netishyn Tomorrow” project is dedicated to the utopian character of atomic cities of Ukraine, Slavutych and Netishyn.

The watercolor sketches represent the cities' future scenarios that we have been developed engaging local people from Slavutych and Netishyn.

The sketchbook made by a traveler in 2066 after his journey to Slavutych and Netishyn appears in the cities in 2016 like a part of the constant art exhibitions in the local museums. In each city, our duo invited local community in re-discovering different locations that have to be changed because they arise sensation of something abandoned or temporary, provoking frustration in the future. Within the open dialogue and reflection has been defined what could be done at these places, and depicted in watercolor sketches afterward. Locations that supposed to be changed were marked by a number and hashtag #slavutychtomorrow #netishyntomorrow on the city streets.

Created in partnership with NGO "Garage Gang" and program Kod Mista. Funded by the Goethe-Institut Ukraine within the framework of "Cultural Educational Academy".

Location 1 - Hyperloop Station in Slavutych

I reached Slavutych by the UkrHyperloop of 28th series which develops speed 1102 km/h

The trip from Kyiv to Slavutych has taken 15 minutes. The registration is as usual, you touch the terminal and you pass. The capsule seats are in blue-green colors. During the trip I’ve had the air pressure in my ears.

Location 2 - The Hotel “Victoria”

Partially, it is used as the Mountaineering Training Center. I saw the whole family which were climbing the hotel’s wall.

At the reception I was met by an electronic administrator. After receiving a key-bracelet, I got into my new apartments.

Location 3 - Temple of the Force

Slavutych people are deeply religious. There’s the Temple of Force in the local park. Here people meditate, learn Jedi skills and keeping equilibrium of the Force.

In the Temple I was amazed by the monument of cult robot R2-D2.
The Old Master told me that it was brought from California in the early twenties. Also, the Old Master said that at the Temple occur the contacts with representatives of alien civilizations.

Location 4 - Modern Art School

Ms. Catherine, the Director of the Modern Art School, kindly demonstrated an exhibition of students’ works to me.

We were walking through the corridors on the flying platforms and looking at students’ art with the VR glasses. Some works were hugely interesting.

Location 5 - The City Biosphere

Greenhouse is located under the dome on the main square. It is right here where meetings of artists, researchers and scientists take place. Usually, sitting on the grass, they talk about saving natural resources and developing social standards.

Some kinds of unique flowers are grown in the biosphere which can not survive in our climate. Due to artificial climate under the dome you can see various trees and flowers from other climate zones even in the winter time.
There’s a couple of birds of prey. They made a special entrance for them, which opens when birds fly into the dome space.

Location 6 - The Lake of Hope

Here on the water they installed a special podium and in the evenings one can listen to a live psychedelic music here.

You can swim in the warm water of the lake watching the group’s performances.
I didn’t want to swim and I stayed behind to meditate on the swimming platform. Due to the tie layout, there are plenty of cozy places where people can get together even at night time thanks to numerous lanterns.

Location 7 - Psychedelic Rehabilitation Center

The psychologist advised me to take a session of psychedelic therapy before the flight. I enrolled into the session in the Slavutych Centre two months ago and finally it happened.

I got into a big room with multimedia walls, the images on which changed depending on my mental state.
While in the session, I understood I was ready to go one way to Mars. The human kind should go beyond its original cradle.
The tests confirmed that I am able to live in the ultra-democratic society.

Location 8 - Cosmodrome

The Cosmodrome is located on the site of the a former nuclear station where a horrible catastrophe happened during last century. Now this place is completely safe.

I have to fly to Mars on Tuesday and I’m a little bit worried.
The flight will last for three and half years and it will be conducted in a special capsule in which I will be in the state of anabiosis. The time will fly fast.
