Last Wednesday, I had my research showcase at the Star Stadium and it was an experience of a lifetime. I had so much fun talking to a lot of kids, my old teachers, my friends, and those who have supported me in this incredible journey. I do want to mention one person in particular who came to see me at showcase, Mr. Harkins. Last summer, my dad enrolled me in a physics camp for girls at UTD. I was excited but little did I know that I would meet someone who would change my life. Mr. Harkins was an engineer for NASA and worked on certain technologies for the International Space Station. He came to the camp as a guest speaker and spoke to us about his experience with NASA. I, of course, was amazed. It was the first time that I had met someone who worked for NASA. It was nothing but amazing. Mr. Harkins identified my interests in astronomy and sat down with me to talk about my future plans. It was then he recommended me to apply for the High School Aerospace Scholars Program. I did as he said and got accepted. He also gave contacts from NASA for ISM and that is who I got to meet with my mentor, Dr. Thomas-Keprta. I am here right now because of Mr. Harkins. He allowed me to live my dream. When he came to showcase, I talked to me about how much he like my original work and we discussed the future of space exploration. I was so happy that he made it. Additionally, my seventh grade science teacher, Mrs. Fry came to see my research and original work. I was surprised when she showed me the yearbook I signed in saying that I wanted to study astronomy. She was so happy that I was following my dream. I swear, she was holding back her tears as I was explaining my work. She was one of the individuals that made me love science. My second grade teacher also came to see me and I was so happy to see her. Mrs. Thomas was one of my favorite teachers. She was the one that taught me to love learning. I couldn't of made it this far without these people. As the night went by, I got to talk to a lot of kids who were interested in space. I was so glad to answer their questions and even inspire them to come into this field. Overall, showcase was amazing! I got to meet new people and share the amazing things I found with everyone.
