Tummy tuck surgery or Abdominoplasty is one of the most sought after medical procedures of women, especially those who have recently given birth.
In their website Johns Hopkins Medicine explained what an Abdominoplasty is, and what it involves. It also shared what a patient can expect during such surgery and what takes place after. Their article also mentioned the two kinds of abdominoplasty procedure which is (1) complete abdominoplasty, and (2) Mini or partial abdominoplasty.
“A tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, flattens your abdomen by removing excess fat and skin from the abdominal area and tightening the muscles. People often choose to have a tummy tuck if they have been unable to lose weight in that area of their bodies or after pregnancy or weight loss when the skin and muscles may sag.”

Demand for Tummy Tuck Surgery
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has published statistical reports on the demand for plastic surgery procedures in the United States. In that report, they mentioned that abdominoplasty has made a comeback and that it is again one of the sought-after treatments of plastic surgery patients.
“Tummy tucks, which dropped from the top five most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in 2016, have rebounded their way back into the top five in 2017. There were over 2,000 more tummy tuck procedures in 2017 than there were in 2016. ‘An improved abdominal contour is something that many of us strive for, but for some patients, that may not be attainable through diet and exercise alone,’ said Janis. ‘Age, pregnancy and significant weight changes can impact both the skin and underlying muscle. Tummy tucks performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon remove excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restore weakened or separated muscles to create an improved abdominal profile.’"

What to Expect
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons meanwhile shared a comprehensive guide on abdominoplasty. In the article posted in their official website, they explained how tummy tuck is being dine, who are the best candidates for it, what the surgery risks are, and what to expect following the surgical procedure.
“Tummy tucks are usually carried out under a general anaesthetic (so you would be asleep). The operation usually takes about three hours, and you would usually spend up to three days in hospital. When you wake up from your operation you may have a drip to give you fluid while you are not drinking. You might be given antibiotics to keep the wound clean. Also, you may have drainage tubes in your lower tummy to drain away any fluid or blood. These tubes will be taken out when the fluid or blood has stopped draining, usually before you go home. Your tummy will feel tight and sore. Simple painkillers should be enough to keep you comfortable.”
The continuation of the explanation can be found here.
Doctors also advice patients to take at least a month off from regular activities like work, and avoid strenuous activities during the period. Lifting is heavily discouraged, and that normally patients feel like their old selves on the seventh week following the abdominoplasty procedure.
