GOTTA LOT TO LEARN

Last week, I took my first Research Assessment. I did struggle in finding an article about architecture’s impact on people as there is not much research on the topic, but I luckily found a journal article about the built environment’s impact on human health. I learned from the article how and why people were affected by architecture.

There were a total of five different design concepts introduced in the article, and it was surprising to see that four out of the five concepts could impact people both negatively and positively while the last concept would only result in positive outcomes. The new vocabulary introduced to me in the article also made me realize there is a lot more to learn about architecture in terms of understanding its impact on society. I want to go more into depth on how people are influenced by their built environment such as understanding the psychology behind it.

However, not only do I wish to increase my knowledge about architecture’s influence on humans and the environment, but I also found it important to learn to think like an architect first as architects frequently use their creativity and imagination to create constructive architecture that serves a substantial role in society. By learning to think like an architect, I feel I will be able to develop new skills that are also required to be an architect. My determination to think and understand architects led me to conclude that my next Research Assessment will be about the challenges and opportunities architects face when creating architecture.

In addition, I believe learning more about who I want to be and how I want to think as an architect will help guide me through my ISM journey as well since I will be more aware and focused on my goals in ISM through understanding my internal goals.
