JUST THE BEGINNING

It's just the beginning of my ISM journey and I have learned so much already. In the first week of ISM, I was able to develop a skill in which I could learn a person’s name and also communicate with them on a deeper level just by using their name in a conversation three times. I did struggle with remembering people’s names before, but now I will be able to apply this skill when meeting new people.

Last week we were also required to give an introductory speech about ourselves. I was really nervous since I usually get anxious and shaky when it comes to public speaking, but was able suck it up and make it through the three minute speech. Compared to my past speeches, I really enjoyed speaking about my hobbies and interests that made me fascinated with architecture, which is the field I want to study in ISM. Listening to other people talk about their interests and passions allowed me to learn many new things about my classmates and the fields they are wanting to study and their future goals.

After getting to know everyone, the real work began. I learned to make a LinkedIn account, which would allow me to find mentoring opportunities and connect with professionals in architecture, and a website, which will act as my digital portfolio for ISM this year. I did encounter some technical difficulties when making the portfolio as Winx was not working for me, but in the end was able to create a satisfactory product through IM Creator.

This week I have my first Research Assessment due. I began looking for an article, but do not know what specifically I want to research. Do I want to look at the sustainable aspect of architecture? Or the modern aspect of it? Or the psychological effect of architecture on humans? Overall, I think I will enjoy writing my first Assessment as I will be able to analyze and apply new information I am gathering for myself to grow and learn.
