Making a Difference in North St. Louis Since 1903
For more than 100 years the Wesley House has continued as one of the metropolitan area's longest standing social service agencies. For those in the Wesley House service area, the agency is a beacon of light that steadies the course into the future and serves as a ray of hope letting generation after generation know that life is purposeful; and the time we share with one another, helping one another, is time to cherish.
Our Purpose
The Wesley House was founded in 1903. Its purpose then was to provide support services for a neighborhood facing serious challenges. Ironically, the more things change, the more things remain the same. As the economy fluctuates and the population shifts, our purpose today mirrors our purpose of over 100 years ago.
In 1925, the Wesley House became part of the Community Fund, now the United Way. The current facility at 4507 Lee Avenue was built in 1952.
The Wesley House continues to serve as an anchor in the community, providing a safe haven for young people, and people who are young at heart through a variety of programs that were founded under three basic principles: supporting the community, respecting our, elders, and preserving our future.
