ImpART is a vibrant & fun workshop for children to practice the art of getting along with others and learning new skills. Using different expressive arts modalities (art, music, dance, drama, music, & writing), children will be encouraged to become more aware and in control of their bodies, improve focus and attention, enhance social skills, nurture self-expression, confidence and self-esteem.
Through this workshop we aim to provide children a safe environment where they can explore and deal with challenges that are associated with growing up, in a child-friendly and holistic manner. Additionally, engaging in different activities will help the child break the monotony of their everyday schedule and reduce dependency on technology as a medium of entertainment.
Through this workshop we aim to address the following:
Communication and social skills building: Children will learn techniques that will allow them to appropriately express their needs, manage conflicts and solve problems. They will understand how to deal with criticism, accept ‘no’ as an answer and appreciate individual differences. They will also learn to recognize verbal, non-verbal cues and how to effectively communicate with their peers, parents and teachers.
Emotional regulation: This workshop will enable children to regulate their emotions by recognizing, monitoring and adapting their emotions optimally as per the situation. This will help them handle frustration better, resolve conflicts with peers, adjust to changing expectations, increase attention, work harder and achieve more.
Behavioral concerns: Common behavioral concerns in children like aggression, irritability, temper tantrums, stubbornness, impulsivity and hyperactivity will be addressed.
Bullying: Through our sessions we will address different forms of bullying, its impact and how to handle teasing, cyber bullying, rumors and gossip along with other traditional forms of bullying.
Anxiety: Children will be equipped with tools to deal with separation from parents or caregivers, exam or performance pressures like public speaking and body image issues. Participants will learn how to cope with fear and worry, identify anxiety triggers and learn about different ways to reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Personal safety: Child abuse and molestation are still sensitive topics for parents to discuss with their children. Through this workshop children will understand what abuse means, understand its impact, learn to differentiate between safe-unsafe touch and respond in ways that ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Dependency on technology and social media: This workshop will facilitate understanding of detrimental effects of social media and technology dependence on many aspects of a child’s life like personal relationships, self- development and academic achievement. Strategies and checks to ensure digital detoxification in order to reduce the amount of time spent on social media will be taught.
As professionals we understand the value of home environment on a child’s mental health and wellbeing. Thus, we will have 2 sessions with the parents to help them gain a better perspective about their child and understand their role in determining their child’s behavior.
Why Groups?
Working in a small group setting benefits children who may have social, communication, or any other behavioral challenges. It provides children a safe environment to practice skills and techniques learned during the sessions. Additionally, it is a cost-effective approach that allows children to meet and interact with other children with similar interests.
Our groups are carefully handpicked to match children based on their ages, goals, needs and areas of challenge. Group sizes may vary between 8 children and a therapist, to 12 children.
