Uncertainty appeals are used frequently in marketing to encourage product choice (Hill, Fombelle, & Sirianni, 2016). In four behavioral studies, we investigate the effect of labeling uncertainty as a “surprise”, without changing the level of information about the product, on subsequent food portion size choice.
