A New Start

07 January 2020

In the past two weeks, during Winter break, I spent some time working on my design project for the second semester and updating my research paper from my Original Work for ISM. I had my first weekly mentor visit with my mentor Lena Quach, an Experience Design Researcher at Capital One. Prior to our mentor visit, I sent her my Original Work research paper and created a set of session goals, as well as a rough schedule for my design project. During our mentor visit, we discussed additions and corrections to my Original Work, our vision for future mentor visits, new UX Design concepts such as systems, ethics, and we discussed potential project ideas. Through this mentor visit, I added more information to my research paper by adding an ethics and accessibility section and making technical edits elsewhere in my paper.

In terms of my second-semester research project, I analyzed and created a list of five different potential options that I wanted to focus on and from there I chose my final two options: issues with the current DMV process and issues with the in-store shopping experience. From this, I also created two supplemental mind maps and one prioritization matrix that will further help me focus on the issue and possible constraints.

I also worked a bit on my Research Showcase presentation by gathering all my materials and finalizing and printing out all my images and titles. Overall, I had a very successful and productive two weeks in ISM and I learned a lot more about the design process.
