Learning to swim in the deep end

09 September 2019

We recently started our first couple week in the ISM journey and I am really excited to see what the future holds in store for me. This past week I recently created a LinkedIn profile and created my website portfolio and it has been really interesting to dive into the professional world. I have connected to a couple of UX Design professionals and have gained some beneficial advice and contacts as a result. This coming week I have two phone interviews and plan to schedule in - person interviews in the next couple of weeks. I completed my first research assessment this past Friday, and the idea of Design Thinking was very intriguing to me. I am really happy that I got a chance to learn more about the UX Design research process, and how to communicate with the user better, and I hope to instill these skills through my own research and ISM journey.

I learned a lot over this past week, and specifically was able to further develop key skills of communication, timing, organization, responsibility, and professionalism and highlighted these skills in how I reached out to different professionals. However, the process was not always easy and I struggled along the way especially in terms of getting responses from professionals and getting into the mindset of getting to know the professional and conducting research before acquiring a mentor. As the week went by, these struggles soon turned into successes as I began to get responses from professionals and expanded my network within the professional world of UX Design.

Overall, I gained a bit of insight and knowledge within my field and I am really excited to begin my research and start the mentor journey!
