A Work in Progress

23 March 2020

This past week in ISM I had a mentor call with my monthly mentor John Keese. During my call with Mr. Keese, we discussed different prototyping methods such as paper prototyping and creating interactive prototypes. Mr. Keese walked me through creating a screen flow, and how I can take this word document and build it into a low - fidelity wireframe. We also discussed creating a plan for testing and after testing one or two people per day, I can work on making bigger and smaller changes along the way. Lastly, we discussed including hotspots for users to click when creating a high - fidelity clickable prototype and how I can use the Crazy 8’s method to narrow my solutions down.

I also had a mentor call with Lena Quach, and during this mentor visit, we also discussed paper prototyping and more about prototyping methods. Ms. Quach walked me through the process of a prototyping session through a video and I learned that similar to the process of User Research, I should create a list of questions that are based on different scenarios and create a discussion guide to help guide my user. Some question types she mentioned were questions such as asking the user about their initial reaction and even doing a simple test to see if users even know how to get to the correct website. We also discussed inferences and she mentioned some changes to make to my inferences report. Ms. Quach also clarified some misunderstandings and she walked me through how with each inference it is important to ask about the benefit the user is getting and if more ideas can be generated from this statement.

This past week has been successful in terms of starting work on my next phase which is prototyping and I was able to work more on sketching out various different solutions. I learned a lot more about crucial skills such as communication, prototyping, and how to create user inferences and how might we statements.
