Leaping Forward Into My Journey

20 January 2020

This past week in ISM, we had the annual FISD ISM Research Showcase and it was a really exciting and beneficial experience that allowed me to present my research and teach people more about Experience Design. Prior to the Research Showcase, I spent time finalizing my board by refining my diagrams and adding a rough design plan. These diagrams helped contribute to the purpose of my secondary research by redefining the DMV experience and also providing others with visuals of my planning process. Overall, the Research Showcase was definitely a success and I was really excited to meet everybody and present my research on Experience Design. I got to explain the objectives of my research paper and my plan for the second semester as well. My mentor Ms. Quach supported me throughout the process and at the event and I am extremely grateful to have her along this journey.

I also wrote a mentor assessment detailing the notes from my second and most recent mentor visit with Ms. Quach and through this I mentioned notes on Design Thinking, User Research, and Testing. I discussed my project idea for the second - semester and my intention of refining my ideas and re-designing an experience for users. Overall, this mentor visit really helped me understand the next steps as part of my design plan and provided me with beneficial advice and tips on how to interview users at the DMV and how to compile data from both the DMV employees and users.

I recently scheduled another meeting with my monthly mentor Mr. Keese, and I am also planning to schedule an appointment with the DMV in order to collect all of my raw data. Prior to that, I will create a list of research goals and questions to guide my User Research stage. This past week in ISM I learned a lot about professionalism, communication, and attentiveness throughout my experience at the Research Showcase and mentor visit assessment.
