Diving into the Prototyping Process

30 March 2020

This past week in ISM I learned a lot more about the process of sketching and wireframing. My mentor connected me to one of her coworkers who could help me learn more about this process. She connected me to Becca Hummel, an Interaction Designer at Capital One, and Ms. Hummel walked me through creating these UX wireframes. I learned more about Information Architecture, and how this is extremely important in terms of creating prototypes that have great usability features and really focusing on the user’s expectations and needs. Ms. Hummel mentioned how it is important to focus more on Information Architecture and the structure of the prototype before focusing on the visual design. She also walked me through creating site maps and workflows and I was able to learn about the difference between these with how sitemaps include the overall general overview of a prototype and how workflows go into the specific details such as with the registration process and how a form might look like.

Overall, this session was extremely beneficial to me as I got to learn more details about the different tools used to prototype and the perspective of an Interaction Designer. I also had the opportunity to ask Ms. Hummel various questions that were specific to my final product such as learning how creating a prototype of the physical layout and design of the DMV would work. I also learned about creating user flows and diagramming the flow of people at the DMV to help with my solutions.

This past week I learned a lot about important methods within the design process and I also used skills such as communicating, reaching out to new professionals, and creating topic-specific questions.
