Professionalism is key to success

This past week in ISM we had the Business Symposium. As part of the Symposium, we engaged with professionals, other ISM students, and learned a lot more about different experiences. At the Symposium I interviewed two different people and learned about their experiences in Insurance and Software Development, and this interview aided in my future interviews in terms of finding a mentor. I also met with two other professionals briefly and answered questions, while getting to know a mix of people in the area. Through this, I also listened to a lecture and this experience has allowed me to build on my professional skills.

Towards the end of the week, I also submitted my first topic proposal for UX Design, and this allowed me to organize all my ideas for my original work in one place. Different examples of ideas include researching and analyzing a successful design project for this semester and then for my final work creating my own design project to solve an underlying issue. Although this is a very complicated and time-consuming task, I am extremely excited to go through the Design Thinking process.

Overall, in ISM this past week I gained a lot of insightful skills such as communication, preparation with my resume and interview questions, and responsibility for being honest and willing to take the time to research. I also had the ability to start my research by reading design-related books and articles and setting up a couple for design research interviews.
