The CWRCA shares infographic on safely dealing with a broken windshield

Accidents can happen anytime and it is important for every vehicle owner to have the presence of mind in dealing with such instances. The California Windshield Repair Contractors Association (CWRCA) came up with an infographic that has been disseminated within the whole state. In the infographic, they encouraged vehicle owners to remain calm, and that there is a safe way to deal with all these without getting harmed. First thing to do according to the infographic is to find a safe place to pull over to safely assess the damage.

“Once they get to a safe place, they can gently leave the car, forego closing the doors first to avoid any impact that could further break the windshield and assess the damage. If the glass looks like it will collapse anytime, then it is best to leave the car alone and make necessary arrangements, however if not, then one could always place a cloth or a newspaper to cover the vents and the interior of the car such that if in case it breaks, the shards will not be everywhere.” said the CWRCA in the pamphlet. The website Arrive Alive has emphasized the importance of windshield and safety, and how it can be very dangerous to try driving with a cracked or broken windscreen. “The Windshield/ Windscreen is an integral role in a car’s support structure. While during the course of normal driving an imbalance or imperfection in this structure might not be apparent, it can become deadly during a crash or collision. In most vehicles the windshield is designed to transfer the impact of a front-end collision down through the front of the car into the chassis, helping to minimize the impact’s effect within the interior, protecting passengers.” Read the continuation here.

The dangers of a broken windshield UK-Based Globe and Mail also shared the risks associated with driving a car with a cracked windshield. In their article they mentioned that apart from the safety risks, a driver also risks being apprehended by traffic officers for violating road safety rules. “Windshields are composed of two pieces of safety glass with a layer of vinyl between, and they're designed to stay intact during a collision. However, as with a bike helmet or child car seat, if a windshield has been weakened due to damage, it may not provide optimal protection. In addition, even a small chip could eventually turn into a larger headache.” Check out the whole write-up here.

A broken windshield should indeed be dealt with immediately to avoid safety risks.
