Each set of hands belong to a woman from Appalachia and their hidden stories of trauma. The resulting installation was derived of hundreds of hours of conversations, get-togethers, meetings, and exchanges between the artist and 15 women from the area.
The space consisted of four projected films, directional speakers that could only be heard by one person at a time, and only if one was standing directly in front of the projection and over 50,000 individual translucent butterfly wings scattered across the floor. As one would walk across the floor, the wings would crunch and
snap, adding to the defecation of a body once complete.
Listen to the videos with sound to hear these women’s voices.
