The macabre is a theme that I have explored quite often over the years. In 2020, I was using old wives tales and phrases as a subject matter under this theme. The origins of the macabre: the frescoes of the dancing skeletons leading commoners and kings to their graves as well as the memento mori still lifes all had the underlying message: no matter how rich or poor you are, remember you will die. Macabre has its roots in moral stories and hence the connection to these old wives tales. This project consisted of experiments in a few different mediums but I ended up focusing a lot on collage. For these works, I created my own coloured textured paper through monoprints.
