Second-hand sofas: why should you clean them? It's not always easy to tell if a second-hand sofa is in good condition. You might think it looks great, but what about its stuffing and springs? When was the last time the cushions were covered with new slipcovers or upholstery? Is there any sign of spilled food or drink on it? How does that "new sofa smell" compare to your old couch at home? It can be difficult to find out these things before buying a used piece of furniture, so many people just buy blind and hope for the best.
But as we all know, sometimes those hopes are dashed when they get their new purchase home and realize they have bought home a problem child. A dirty, smelly sofa needs an expensive cleaning job to make it look decent or even usable again. This may be because the previous owner didn't clean the upholstery with any care, perhaps their kids spilled all sorts of things on it, or they just didn't clean it at all. Whatever the reason, nothing ruins the excitement of buying a new sofa like discovering that you need to fork out money to get your new "bargain" looking good again.
