Homeowners who will soon be upgrading their HVAC unit are being encouraged by the La Jolla HVAC Contractors’ Association to consider eco-friendly HVAC technologies as replacement to their existing units.
Speaking during an HVAC 101 seminar called for by one of the country’s biggest HVAC manufacturers, LJHCA President Phil Thomspon says there is much to benefit from an eco-friendlier HVAC as it is not only energy efficient, it also lowers a home’s carbon footprint. “Sustainable technology is definitely the way to go. You could immediately recoup your investment through better energy efficiency, at the same time, you can rest well knowing that you are not further burdening the environment by choosing something that reeks off unnecessary emission, and use up too much energy,” he enthuses.
The LJHCA has been in the forefront of encouraging homes to go greener as it has always been part of their advocacy. The LJHCA says HVAC systems make up close to half of a home’s energy consumption ant is makes perfect sense to choose eco friendlier technology to help preserve the environment.
Home architecture website The Architizer has shared eight HVAC technologies homeowners should consider when replacing their old units. In their write-up they mentioned that renewable technology is the way to go when it comes to greener HVAC. Among the technologies that they mentioned is Ice-Powered Air Conditioning.
“The Ice Bear is a thermal battery that transforms existing air conditioners into cost-effective cooling machines. During the night, when the electric grid is less burdened, Ice Bear fills with water and freezes it into a block of ice. During the day, this ice is used to provide affordable air conditioning to the building, without running the air conditioner’s energy-guzzling compressor. This results in 95% less energy use during the hottest hours of the day, drastically cutting both electricity bills and carbon emissions.” Read more about the other technologies The Architizer has mentioned here.
Eco-Friendly Heating Technology
Vista College also encouraged the use of greener heating and air conditioning technologies for both residential and business properties. In one of their web posts, they shared the technologies that can be considered for this, and one of those that they mentioned is Geo Thermal Heat Pumps. International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials “The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognizes the value of geothermal heat pumps, and considering the benefits they provide, perhaps you should, too. These pumps can deliver efficiencies between 300 percent and 600 percent even on cold winter nights, the DOE notes. Comparatively, traditional air-source heat pumps can provide roughly 175 percent to 250 percent efficiencies in cold weather conditions.” The rest of the explanation can be found here.
The SDHCA says homeowners should just check with their respective contractors on recommendations for eco friendlier HVAC systems, and most would be more than happy to provide complimentary cost quotations.
