It is a commonly known fact that the Serbs are not fond of Muslims. On a personal level, my husband had been told by his own Serb uncle a Muslim man should not be allowed to marry a Christian woman. Naturallyhe was devastated and didn't return to our place for two months. Even then, he was ready to undergo union with a Christian woman only if there was no immediate danger to his life.
Luckily he escaped to Canada where he could marry a beautiful woman without fear of repercussions. Sadly, his experience is not an isolated person. In Belgrade he witnessed the way the Muslim guy beat up a Christian girl because she didn't complete a spiritual test. The lady later died from her injuries.
In fact, this incident occurred before my eyes and I neglected to intervene. That is why I use the"No" option once I fill the" Volunteering in my Own Nation" self evaluation form. But it should be stated that the exact same cannot be said concerning the volunteer services in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been a number of instances of rape and violence against minorities. The victims are Muslims and Christians alike.
I can only hope that the authorities of Serbia will introduce a law that prohibits all forms of discrimination irrespective of sex, race or faith. I was amazed to learn that the authorities of Serbia has nothing great to propose as far as the security of minority communities is worried. There is no legal provision for victims of crimes to file for compensation from the criminals. Therefore, filling the"Volunteering in my country" self evaluation form is totally voluntary.
In such a scenario, any person who wants to assist the disadvantaged people of the country should do this with no sense of shame. According to a recent survey, nine out of every ten Serbs believe themselves as good philanthropists! This can be quite an wonderful figure when you come to think of it. Additionally, it goes on to show that not all of them are selfish or egoistic. There are a few very genuine feelings of empathy and concern which they want to assist other people in need.
If you wish to assist the innocent victims of ethnic cleansing in Chechnya, you are able to fill the"Voluntary Work abroad in my Country" self evaluation form. You will not receive any financial aid. But, you'll find a moral boost and feel great about yourself. And that is a priceless benefit!
