Thirty years after George qui ?, Michèle Rosier goes back to historical literary fiction with her biography of André Malraux (1901-1976). Made on the hundredth anniversary of his birth, Malraux tu m’étonnes ! (2000) is and audacious and rigorous portrait of the French writer and politician. Composed as a picture book and accompanied by an omnipresent voice-over, the film was deemed minimalist and too long (3 hours) by the critics. This fifth feature film, a true woman’s work according to le Figaro, vacillates between excessive pedagogy and kitsch.
