The San Diego Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association (SDCDLA) held its fun run event this time at the Mission Bay’s Fiesta Island. The annual event is part of the SDCDLA’s health and wellness activities for the year as they continue with their advocacy for self-care among their members.
SDCDLA Executive Director Robert Christensen says that for the past 20 years, the annual running event has been much awaited by the members and their families and friends. It is after all a health and leisure activity that fosters friendship among its members and their respective families.
Fitt San Diego described the Fiesta Island trail in one of its posts on best places to run when in San Diego. “Mission Bay’s man-made Fiesta Island offers a four-mile loop that’s perfect for runners of all abilities. Take on the whole loop for an intense run or cut through the center of the peninsula for a shorter route. Either way, the flat pathway stretches around dirt and dunes and is a respite from traffic — cars are few and far between here. Fiesta Island is also home to a large dog park, so bring your furry friend for some exercise in the sun.”

Christensen says they always encourage their members to regularly engage in fitness activities. In fact, the SDCDLA has a running club that holds runs on a weekly basis. “We always highlight the many benefits of leisurely running to our members. It is a great stress buster actually and we want them to enjoy it,” says Christensen. Harvard Health has published the many health benefits of running regularly. In the article they published they highlighted that this cardiovascular exercise can be very helpful in improving heart health.
“Marathoners are the thoroughbreds of high-performance runners, but even the draft horses of the running world — slow and steady joggers — improve their health. A study out this week in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology finds that even five to 10 minutes a day of low-intensity running is enough to extend life by several years, compared with not running at all. It shows that the minimal healthy “dose” of exercise is smaller than many people might assume.” Take a look at the whole article here.
The SDCDLA is a non-profit organization of San Diego Based Lawyers. It has been in existence for the past 20 years. One of its advocacies is to help lawyers improve their health and wellness, and prioritize self-care.
