EIGHT HUNDRED MILLION.
Eight hundred million people are starving somewhere on the earth.
This is the truth.
But open your refrigerator: don't you find some food you let go bad by mistake?
Or unnecessarily purchased food?
Food waste from developed nations accounts for over 40% of the total waste. And most of the waste comes from the consumer phase - which means, we can change the world by ourselves by reducing food waste. It's completely up to us whether or not we solve the problem of unequal food distribution between developed nations and developing nations.
Also, the massive amount of food waste harms the environment. Food waste often produces toxic substances; it's pretty difficult for farmers to convert food waste to animal feed; also food waste cannot easily be converted to biomass energy.
But our app might solve both problems.
We found out most of food we waste every day is from refrigerator; we store tons of edible food but often forget that even the food is there - which results in wasting food we were once supposed to consume. Therefore, minimizing the amount of food thrown away from a refrigerator can be one solution.
ResQ Your Food, suggested and created by 6 eighteen-year-old Japanese college students, enables every family - no matter how busy they are - to manage their food in the refrigerator wisely and easily. Every day you purchase food, its data such as amount, purchased dates, and EXP dates will be directly imported to the app. And few days later, you will recieve a notification when your food reaches the EXP date. You will be informed of food you need to consume immediately before it goes completely inedible.
Let's change the world together - this is our challenge.
