I WAS LOOKING BACK AT THE TRUE COLORS TEST WHEN I NOTICED CERTAIN TRAITS MATCHING WITH THAT OF MYERS-BRIGGS. WHILE TRUE COLORS ISN’T AS BROKEN DOWN AS MYERS-BRIGGS, IT CAN BE COMPARED TO THE FOUR TEMPERAMENTS THAT THE 16 TYPES ARE DIVIDED INTO.
ACCORDING TO THE KIERSEY TEMPERAMENT WEBSITE, THE FOUR DESIGNATED AREAS GUARDIAN, ARTISAN, IDEALIST AND RATIONAL. FOR THE REST OF THIS ENTRY, I WILL BE USING INFORMATION FROM THAT SITE.
Guardian types are the ones dedicated to serving and preserving the social institutions and include the ESTJ, ISTJ, ESFJ, and ISFJ. I would match this type with the Gold color in that both are considered the more traditional of the their groups.
Reading through the four types, they all have the same willingness to serve people in more concrete ways such as community service. They also are the types that will most likely have families. One thing that is similar is the fact that they all have Judging trait. This makes sense seeing as Guardian types would be more likely to have a plan.
Artisan types are the ones to succeed at anything artistic of athletic and include the ESTP, ISTP, ESFP, and ISFP. The color that would match up with them is the Orange color in that both are spontaneous people who love fun. After Guardians, more people tend to fall into these types, not surprising since every time I see this the True Colors test taken, there are always more Orange than everybody else. They all share the trait of Perceiving, most likely because Artisan types are more spontaneous and do not need a plan.
Idealist types are the ones concerned about personal growth and development and include the types ENFJ, INFJ, ENFP, and INFP. The color closely associated would be the color Blue due to both types having higher levels of empathy and personal integrity. One thing I notice is that all of these types have iNtuitive and Feeling. This makes sense since from what I can tell, Idealists are empathetic while also being aware of the bigger picture.
Lastly, Rational types are the problem solvers and include the types ENTJ, INTJ, ENTP and INTP. The color most associated with them is the color Green due to their skeptical, ingenious and even-tempered nature. If you notice, all of the types have NT (Intuitive and Thinking) which makes sense that if you are a Rational type, you would most likely have high iNtuitive and Thinking because they tend to look at the big picture, do not need concrete details, and they aren’t as emotional.
My point in writing this entry was to show how closely tied the True Colors test is with Myers-Briggs. Having taken both of these tests, I know that I am definitely in the Rational temperament. I would definitely recommend that you should take the True Colors test as a starting point to get a good idea of what you are and move on to Myers-Briggs to get a better idea of where your talents lay.
