Babe Ruth once said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” Working well in school can be very challenging. However, there are many students that do it. It is important to learn how to work while being young. The only way we can follow our dreams is to work towards them.
There are many students at Animas high school that work jobs while going to full-time school. Me being one of them. I wanted to get some quotes from students to see how it is from other points of you than just myself. Working especially during Covid can be different. Students are able to work a lot more hours than they would be if they were going to full-time school. This especially will be the case because restaurants and places are fully opening back up, giving more students an opportunity to have or get a job.
Sailor a junior at Animas high school said, “ I get a lot more time to work because of online school. Online school has decreased our grades and working during the week doesn’t help.” Even though sailor gets to work a lot more because of online school it also may be hard to do this because a lot of times grades drop.
Molly Bachman, another junior at Animas high school said, “I feel like I would work the same as I do now but I would be busier because I would have more school.” Some of the students can see an upside to the Covid challenges because they get to work more with maybe a little less work.
Many students going to high school have to work. Whether it’s to help their families or to get into a good college. It can be very stressful having to deal with your own money at a young age. However, there can be upsides to it. It can prepare you for your life outside of high school.
Jaslin Lindsay a junior said, “I like my job but sometimes it’s hard to balance the two.” We always hear adults talking about balance in their lives. Working during high school can be a good way to experience that but it also can make high school a lot more stressful.
Sometimes some of the teachers should understand if one assignment is a little late because the student has to work a lot. It’s a normal thing for high school students to work. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not hard. We should all look out for one and another. And understand that sometimes it can be hard finding the balance between work and school.
